About Me

meI started Scrapping Away in 2005 shortly after the company I work for was bought by a much larger company.  Anticipating a layoff I started thinking about what I would really like to do. As an avid scrapbooker my ideas revolved around scrapbooking.  With two small boys I knew I needed something with a lot of flexibility.  I started thinking about retreats then one day realized I shouldn’t wait until I was laid off. I’m glad I didn’t because the lay off never happened.

Organizing retreats has been a very fulfilling experience for me.  There is nothing nicer then watching a group of scrapbookers working on their projects, chatting with friends, meeting new people and having a good time.  To see everyone share their passion is a real thrill. During the past 3 years I have met many interesting people, many of whom I see again and again. And, oh yes, did I mention that I have an excuse to buy lots of new tools.

One of the highlights for me was writing an article about scrapbook retreats that was published in the Summer 2006 edition of Canadian Scrapbooker.  It was quite a thrill to be published in such a great magazine.

Another thing that has made me very happy has been the ability to raise money for the BC Cancer Society. Through 50/50 draws and raffles I've been able to raise over $2,500. The company I work for matches all donations so the total amount now over $5,000. I lost my mom to cancer in 2001 so this is a cause near and dear to my heart - and to the hearts of many of the people I've met at retreats.

I’m looking forward to organizing many more retreats and meeting many more crazy scrappers in the coming years.
